Alnwick, historically
the capital of Northumberland, lies centrally in the county, 31
miles north of Newcastle and 30 miles south of Berwick.
Lying on the south bank of the River Aln
since the Norman invasion, Alnwick has a long and colourful history,
with the Percy family - Earls and Dukes of Northumberland - being
the principal landowners for the past seven centuries.
You'll find lots to see and do in Alnwick and
if you want to go further afield, Alnwick makes a great base from
which to explore the rest of Northumberland, including the stunning
scenery of the National
Park.
You can find out about the history of county life
at the Bailiffgate
Museum, wander through Bondgate
Tower, visit the Market
Square - home to the Tourist Information Office - or relax as
you stroll round The
Alnwick Garden.
If you still haven't had enough castle exploring
after Alnwick Castle, then it's a short trip down to Warksworth
where you'll find another exceptionally well maintained medieval
castle.
Enjoy!
